Mission/Outreach at Mountain Shadows

Mountain Shadows exists to create and maintain a joyful fellowship of dedicated Christians linked by the Spirit to be examples of the Love of God in Jesus Christ.  Our mission is local, regional, and global.

Locally, we address the needs of our neighbors in Catalina.  We provided holiday food baskets, Christmas gifts, monthly support of the food bank at Catalina Community Services and occasional crisis intervention.  Our newly organized Hispanic Ministry holds a weekly bible study at our church. Regionally, we are members of Interfaith Community Services, support the University of Arizona Presbyterian Campus Ministry, Brewster House, and House of Neighborly Services. Our Alternative Christmas Catalog makes it possible for church members to make cash contributions to these organizations.   Guest speakers share the programs of these ministries from our pulpit and congregational volunteers work with these groups.

Globally, we participate in the Frontero de Cristo Border Ministry in Agua Prieta, Mexico to support and learn about Mexican ministries, health programs, new church development and immigration issues.  We sell “Just Coffee” and contribute to the Just Trade Business Development Center which addresses the immigration crisis by providing coffee farmers with a fair price for their product.  We are reaching out to Peru through the Presbyterian Hunger Program initiative that has organized Peruvian artisans into a Fair Trade industry of beautiful crafts of all kinds, and through a relationship with missionaries in Peru.
