- Sunday, August 30 — Following worship, the Mission Ministry Team invited everyone to this Session-approved opportunity to advocate for neighbors experiencing hunger, sponsored by the Bread for the World advocacy agency. Participation was entirely voluntary. Approximately 20 participants gathered in Rooms 2/3 to receive guidance on crafting “why hunger matters to the participant” and to enjoy substantial refreshments. Sample letters were provided to help participants write their own faith-based letters to elected officials, urging support of hunger assistance programs SNAP and WIC. This Offering of Letters was prompted by Bread for the World, a non-partisan, Christian anti-hunger organization that Mountain Shadows supports. - As of 9-2-26, twenty-three participants took part in the event. Consequently, six letters for each participant (i.e., 138 individual letters) were crafted and mailed to the Arizona legislative representatives (three State legislative representatives and three Federal congressional representatives).
